Egypt and Mexico this Summer?

February 24, 2008 on 7:48 pm | In Archaeology, Egypt, Mayans, Mexico, Travel | No Comments

Well it looks like I’ll be able to afford at least one trip this summer, and maybe two. So first off, I have to make Egypt a priority. I’ve wanted to see the ancient ruins there since I was old enough to know they existed, and for some reason I still haven’t been. For the second trip I’m debating between Southeast Asia and Central, and/or South, America. If I head over to Asia I could see Angkor Wat, which would be cool, not to mention the beautiful beaches. On the other hand, I could fly to the Yucatan and work my way down into Guatemala, seeing a lot of great Mayan sites, including Tikal. The only problem is if I go to Mexico I’ll really want to see Teotihuacan. Too bad it’s way up north. I’m still hammering out the details, but I’ll update the blog when I know more about my plans.

History/Archaeology Tours

February 22, 2008 on 6:25 am | In Archaeology, Travel | No Comments

Well I know some people are adamant about arranging all their travels independently (myself included), but some people might not be so inclined.  To cater to those wanting to see some of the amazing archaeological sites talked about here on The Research Web I’ve decided to start offering some tour and vacation packages through this site that should be appealing to my visitors.  Most of the tours focused on archaeological sites are listed in the “History Vacation Packages” section.  There’s all kinds of stuff, from Mayan ruins in Guatemala, to the Great Pyramid in Egypt, to Angkor Wat in Cambodia, etc…

Wiki

Google doesn’t seem to want to crawl anything beyond the homepage of the wiki right now so it’ll be changing as I try to fix it.  I’m pretty sure it’s because all the content links are behind these [+] expandable list things, and they’re javascript.  I read somewhere that google crawls javascript links, but doesn’t index them, so that might be it.  Anyways, just expect the homepage to change around a bit as I get this sorted.

Getting back into the swing of things

February 15, 2008 on 8:33 pm | In Uncategorized | No Comments

I hadn’t been doing much of this kind of research the last few years, just because I’ve been so busy, but a new job working with some archaeologists has inspired me to get back on track. To get back into the swing of things, I’ll start by going through all my old notes and typing them up for the research web. I’ll also probably reread some of the more important books I’ve read on these subjects and add notes on them as well. Once I’m back up to speed I’ll continue onward into new territory.

New Content Up

I’ve just finished moving all the posts over from my old wiki, so the research web has some real content up now.

Piri Reis Map Theme

February 10, 2008 on 2:55 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Well, with a little tinkering I managed to end up with a pretty cool Piri Reis Map blog theme..

I’m about to start transfering a bunch of wiki pages from my old private wiki onto the research web so there should be some actual content up pretty soon..

Hello world!

February 9, 2008 on 7:28 am | In Uncategorized | No Comments

Welcome to the official blog of The Research Web.  I will be posting here about my research as I find new information and try to piece it together.  Posting will probably be somewhat sporadic, at least for the time being.  The main site is the wiki, but eventually this blog will probably become more active.  I’ve also installed a forum to encourage a community to develop around these topics.
